Tanzania: Northern Parks and Great Wildebeest Migration

The annual wildebeest migration of herds in Northern Tanzania is one of the world's most spectacular wildlife events. Often referred to as the ʻGreatest Show on Earth', the Great Wildebeest Migration is a movement of approximately 1.5 million wildebeest and zebra throughout the Serengeti and Masai Mara ecosystems.
We are organising a unique photo safari to let participants witness this amazing show of nature in July 2010: an unforgettable experience with a mobile tented safari in the heart of the Serengeti National Park. Incredible emotions and unique shot opportunities will be your daily bread during this workshop.

The Photo Workshop – a short description
Before leaving…
We will organise a meeting to brief participants about the safari programme and migration path as well as environmental, social and logistical details about Tanzania. We will also focus on the equipment you will need and on the contents
and objectives of our workshop.

On site…
The main objective of this workshop is to provide participants with a thorough and extensive technical and cultural knowledge on how to build a photo reportage that shows Tanzaniaʼs social, natural and environmental aspects from different angles. Lessons will be taking place on site on a daily basis. Every morning, before reaching the shooting site of the day, a short briefing session will provide more practical information on the programme of the day. Participants will have the opportunity to take their pictures for 6 to 8 hours every day with the constant supervision of a coach who will provide all photographers with helpful suggestions.
Every afternoon, once the lesson is over and before dinner, participants will analyse together (under the supervision of the coach) the shots they have taken during the day. This will be a precious opportunity to come together and discuss best practices to foster everyoneʼs improvement and to avoid that the same mistakes are made on the following day. During these lessons, several key topics will extensively be discussed: photo techniques, best use of digital cameras, lenses (from fish-eye 15 mm to 500 mm lenses), image filing, post-production techniques and so on. It will also be suggested how to better approach photo magazines and publishers in order to turn your passion for photography into a real profession.

After the workshop
Two/three days after the workshop, participants will meet again to prepare a slide show of their best shots and to create their personal portfolios. The top shots taken during the workshop will be published on our website.
