Luca Bracali was extremely young when he discovered his love of photography and he began taking photographs in order to satisfy and give shape to his main interest – travelling. Bracali is a great lover of adventure and everything to do with nature, especially the wildest and intriguing side of it, and during the last twenty years he has been around the world several times. His camera goes everywhere with him, and was there to record some of the most extreme and exciting adventures. From the icy regions of Mongolia he pushed on as far as the Svalbard islands in Norway. From the Republic of Botswana in southern Africa he reached as far as Yukon. He has travelled the five continents using every possible means of transport including a bicycle, a hot air balloon, skis and sledge dogs. So far 120 countries have been immortalised in his photographs, and not even the polar regions have escaped his objective. Bracali has also dedicated much time and attention to the ecological problems concerning the Arctic Circle and as a contributor has become a member of APECS – the Italian Association of young scientists and experts in the Arctic region. His first book “Storia illustrata di Pistoia” (“Illustrated History of Pistoia”) was published in 2005. It is a photographic excursus through the history of one of the oldest episcopal sees in Tuscany. From the experience acquired in his first years of travel and work emerged the book “I Colori del Viaggio” (“The Colours of the Journey”) which was published in 2006 and awarded a prize the following year at the international competition “Oriveto Fotografia”. In 2008 Bracal made “Arctic Sun on My Path” – a journey across Canada and Alaska on the tracks of polar bears and the last Inuit to bear witness to the climatic and environmental changes of our planet. It was a three-way challenge – human, media and technology – and was covered live by satellite on the Iridium/Geomat geographical positioning system on Google maps. His adventure excited the interest of the press and was covered by various Italian radio networks. In December of that same year, the first edition of the book “SOS Pianeta Terra”, (“SOS Planet Earth” ) was published by Electa Mondadori. This was a journey to discovery the beauty and the problems of our planet, the start of an ecological investigation to raise awareness on the importance of protecting the environment. In February 2009 Bracali undertook a difficult expedition to Alaska with Patricio Estay, director of Nazca Vision, to begin the first part of a series of documentaries to complement the “SOS Pianeta Terra” project. For many years Bracali, not only as a photographer but also as an enthusiast, has, by means of his work, helped to spread awareness concerning polar issues. The most difficult challenge he had to face was in April 2009 when he ski-trekked for 80 kilometres in the North Pole. For eight days he was entirely self-sufficient at temperatures below 50°C. On that occasion he reached the Russian Ice Camp Barneo where he met the oceanographic and glaciological teams headed by Professor Victor Bovarsky.
In October 2009, with the technical support of Canon, his first touring school of Travel Photo Workshop will start operating in the most fascinating and remote parts of our planet In 2009 Bracali has been choosen as testimonial for the following companies: Columbia, Sorel, Suunto e Mercedes-Benz. Luca Bracali is represented in Italy and abroad by the photographic agency Nazca Pictures.
